Tsukiyo - Japanese for a moonlit night.

The Moon, my muse, embodies the beauty of endless natural rhythms & cycles.

Tsukiyo is a one woman owned and operated eco studio, founded in 2018 by Sarah Armstrong.

In 2015, I said goodbye to my Australian life to join my husband in his home metropolis, Tokyo. Now residing in Aomori, Japan’s famous snow and apple region, I’m savoring the simplicity of countryside life until we return to the city someday.

It was here, amidst the serene landscapes of northern Japan, that I first encountered unloved yet still beautiful and functional kimono cloths. These fabrics, rich in history and artistry, inspired me to merge my love of nature, sustainability, and fashion design tailoring. O Tsukiyo was born out of a desire to breathe new life into these forgotten textiles, transforming them into creations that can be cherished and reused in daily life.

Guided by the principles of traditional Japanese crafts and inspired by the eco-conscious culture of Edo Japan, O Tsukiyo celebrates the beauty found in weathered, imperfect materials. Each piece pays homage to the artistry and resourcefulness of the past while embracing a sustainable future, showcasing the endless potential of forgotten cloth.
